MGMT sue French President over rights

If you didn’t already know New York based Rockers MGMT started legal proceedings against the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, which I think is pretty sick! The accusation is that the politicians UMP party used their hit track Kids as a campaign song at the national congress and in two online videos. If you’re not familiar with the track check it out below, it’s a pretty BIG tune.

UMP officials admitted using the song and apologised for the mistake, offering the band a symbolic gesture of one euro ($1.23/£0.89) in compensation. LIBERTY!!! If they tried to offer me that kind of token gesture there is absolutely no doubt they had better have a good legal team, because I’m gonna sue your ass.

The MGMT legal team rejected the offer and are following up their legal complaint. Their lawyer, Isabelle Wekstein, says, "This offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors. It is insulting.” Personally for the fact that Sarkozy made such a impertinent move in the token gesture, I hope he does get sued! More power to you MGMT!
