Eminem Uses Album Cover To Tease New "Relapse" Release

To hype the release of Eminem’s upcoming his new album "Relapse", the media savvy rapper Eminem has combined the modern self-inflicted leak with a very old school marketing tool, the album cover, and delivered the message to his 39,000 Twitter followers.

"This is getting very real," wrote Marshal Mathers aka Eminem accompanied by a link to a hidden Interscope web page displaying only the new cover which recreates his image using thousands of pills .This morning a new tweet states, "I'm with Angela Yee on Shade45 Thursday morning. Listen carefully." Shade 45 is a satellite hop hip station co-created with Enimem.

In the age of digital downloads, album covers have been relegated to postage stamp size graphics if visible at all. Many complain about the loss, while others have tried to reinvent it. For Eminem’s fans, what was once old is now new again.

AQA launches premium mobile micro-blogging service

AQA is one of those SMS Q&A services where you text in questions and it texts you back the answers. But now it’s launched a new service called AQA2U, which lets anyone set up a Twitter-style news feed that sends out the persons thoughts as texts to subscribers at 25p a time, up to a maximum of £3.50 a month.

That’s right, it’s basically getting people to pay for content they could get for free from a Twitter feed. Or, as AQA puts it, “AQA2U is micro-blogging with a business model”.

Grime star Tinchy Stryder is already using the service. I have to ask though, will consumers really pay for this? Considering the majority of people don't really want to pay for music these days, and given that Tinchy tweets lots on Twitter already, what on earth will be in his AQA2U feeds worth paying for? I have been a champion of artists endorsing technology and embracing alternative revenue streams, however, I do have my doubts about this one, but stranger things have happened…

The Tate Modern 2

When the Tate Modern opened in 2000, visitor numbers were expected to be 1.8 million a year at tops. Almost a decade on, the figure is 4.6 million. Even though Tate Modern's home, the former Bankside power station, is a huge, the sheer number of people visiting throughout the year has made an expansion the obvious evolution.

Today, the London Borough of Southwark approved plans for Tate Modern 2, an 11-storey, brick-clad pyramid – of sorts – designed by Herzog and de Meuron, the Swiss architects who transformed the redundant power station across the Thames from Wren's St Paul's Cathedral nearly a decade ago.

The extension, a dramatic origami-like unfolding of brick and glass, may yet take some while to open. The total cost is expected to be £215m and, currently, there is a shortfall of some £145m to contend with. Of the £50m granted by central government, £10m has already been spent on the details of the planning process.
TM2 has already been redesigned. First revealed in 2006, the original design was for a Mad Max-style glass ziggurat. Thought of as a bit too showy, this has since been adjusted to a current design which, clad in brick, pays homage of sorts to the great brick mass of Bankside. A redesign was also necessary to enable the Tate to make use of the three vast oil tanks lurking under the building; these massive spaces are to be used for performances, galleries and offices. They will be some of the most unexpected interiors in London, reached by ramps winding down from an entrance in the side of the Turbine Hall in TM1. Nicholas Serota, director of the Tate, suggests a completion date of 2013 or 2014

The new building will rise in tiers, some solid, others perforated, up 11 floors of galleries, culminating in a 150-seat restaurant on the 10th floor and a public viewing gallery on the 11th. As with a ziggurat, the floors get smaller as the building goes up. In stark contrast to the voluminous horizontal spread of TM1, it is a vertical stack. Ramps, spiral stairs and eight lifts will link the various floors and levels. The column-free gallery space inside will increase Tate Modern's ability to display artworks by some 65%.

TM2 will be a hugely popular attraction without doubt. If the design is well crafted and as dramatic as it could be, it will prove itself a happily eccentric addition to the London skyline. And to have a tower dedicated to art and creative expression rather than another construction reminding us of our fickle financial service industry will definitely be a breath of fresh air.

Lunch Teef Deterrent

I think im one of the lucky ones that have never had any of my sarnies stolen from the fridge at work. I think it might have something to do with my colleagues knowing how id react to not seeing my Jerk Chicken in Hard Dough Bread sandwich...it wouldn’t be a pretty site! For those of you that have fallen foul to those light fingered sarnie snatchers you need not worry as this might just be your saviour.

As you can see these anti - theft lunch bags make the lunch teef think that you had forgotten about that nice home made club sarnie you made last week which resulted in mold growth!

Seems like a good idea in the short term but i can only imagine people looking at you funny when your for ever taking out the mould sarnie and walking to your desk! I sense an email from the Office Manager about food hygiene coming on!!

According to reports Alexandra Burke has signed a £3million five-album record deal with Epic which is an arm of Sony. The deal will see her launched in America by the same team behind the international success of BeyoncĂ© and Rihanna. X-factor judge Simon Cowell who managed Leona Lewis's US launch, helping her become the first British woman in 20 years to top the Billboard chart with her song Bleeding Lovewill also be involved in the deal.

The deal follows a record-breaking start to Burke's singing career. Her version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah became the fastest-selling single ever by a female artist and remained at No 1 for three weeks in the UK charts. These day’s record deals of the size are few and far between, so well done Alex, ‘Your Hustling Ard’!

No Your Not! Stop Lying...

The search engine giant Google have recently added a new feature to Google Maps called Latitude which allows you to share your current location with friends and family. Google hopes that Latitude will help people find each other while out and about to 'keep track' of loved ones!
Latitude uses Google's technology to judge a user's location not only by using satellite GPS, but also by the proximity to mobile phone towers and wireless networks. For those in a relationship, in short, you cant hide from each other once you've both signed up!

Actually thats not true. You can select fellow Latitude members that make up your close-knit circle of friends and family with whom you'd be me than willing to share your exact location details. Then theres those acquaintances that you only wish to share your Town/City level detail with.

There is something to remember here. Your partner is obviously gonna be in the first group, knowing your exact location. When they jump onto Latitude to see that it doesnt say that your in Brockley or New Cross and now states that your in London..."Oh no he didn't"! Just thought i would pass that one on! My take on this is to make sure your aware what your signing up for . This is a mobile police tag for those in relationships! For those 09 'Playa's', you've be warned!

I actually like the capabilities of Latitude. Theres scope for this to have a heart warming affect on a long distance relationship! Imagine your partner being away for months on business and not being able to be with you for Valentines Day. You could virtually plonk yourself next to them on the map! I think thats sweet!

Am i clutching or turning sarf (soft)?

'Your Snow Sculpture Games Weak Son'!

I made it clear in my recent flash back friday that i was tired of the recent snow we received and although i did make a snow man, my song of choice made it clear that i wanted some sun...5 days on, no sun!

Anyway, i came across a few snaps from the 60th Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan. In short, they make any snowman that ANYBODY made in this country look moist!

Moist!!!

The Beat 'Em Ups of all Beat 'Em Ups!!

Street Fighter is the best beat 'em up...standard!

I remember hating disliking my older cousins for never letting me play Street Fighter II when it came out on the Super Nintendo. I still kinda resent them for initially only allowing me to play if i was E Honda or Zangief as they where mad slow and pretty whack!

One day i decided to take all the dead legs and chinese burns from my cousins for forever 'making them get killed by M Bison' (whatever) as i was sure that after all the hours of watching them master Ryu and Ken's moves, i could give them a run for their money. Given my chance, I made sure 'ran up'! I now had their respect and was now able to play alongside them and their boys. I was 8 and i felt like a bad man! Since then Street Fighter has been my beat 'em up of choice and I'll defend the game till the end against all those Tekken fans!

I dont often wait up till the early hours on friday mornings to cop the latest release from my local 24 hr Asda's unless its to get Pro Evo or Call of Duty but the following opening sequence has made me reconsider that!

I Can't Sleep

I fought the sleep to stay up and watch a really close Super Bowl XLIII which was won by the Pittsburgh Steelers for a record 6th time. I did so well at fighting the sleep that now that i want and need to sleep...i just can't seem to do it!

I've been tossing and turning in my bed for what seems to be forever and i just couldn't seem to drift off so i just thought F**k it and got up, picked up my camera and took these...at 5:38am!

Now i must sleep!

David Beckham’s Delight

David Beckham broke his AC Milan duck on Sunday evening in a 4-1 away victory against Bologna. I run out of superlatives when talking about this man, every time he is faced with difficult circumstances or the proverbial ‘chips are down’ the guy rolls his socks up, doesn’t get involved in talking a load of s*@t and gets on with it. Now having played for three of the largest football clubs in the world in Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan along with the reported $250 million deal he is on at LA Galaxy, I salute you David, your ‘Hustlin Ard’!

Arab Money

Last summers transfer window saw Robinho make his much publicised move from Real Madrid to Chelsea Man City on deadline day for £32.5m. The Manchester club where also rumoured to have tabled a late bid for Dimitar Berbatov who was already at advanced stages with there local rivals.

With all clubs aware that the new owners of the blue half of Manchester have the 'cash monies' to give current boss Mark Hughes blank cheques to attempt the worlds best players, rumours broke this morning of Man City representatives in Milan trying to broker a deal of £100m for the 2007 World Player of the Year Kaka. The deal is reportedly to include a weekly wage of £500,000. That’s £2m a month!!!

Kaka is undoubtedly one of the best players on the planet but to offer him such huge wages is ridiculous!

Thoughts?

Is This Even a Job???

It’s being billed as “The Best job in The World”- working for six months as a “caretaker” on Hamilton Island in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. As the world recession sets in the successful applicant will be whisked off to the golden sandy beaches of Hamilton Island, and as if that wasn’t enough, you get paid “£70,000”!!!! That’s right 70 GRAND, but there’s more it’s complete with a rent free three-bedroom villa with a pool! I’m thinking these people are taking the piss! So maybe you’re thinking what exactly does this job entail? Well you have a six month contract to explore the paradise like surroundings, file a weekly blog, photo diary and video updates, while conducting “ongoing media interviews” (Not exactly what I would call taxing). Having investigated the job a little further myself, the application site crashed after it reportedly was getting 2,000 hits per second... Nuff said! In any case if you want to apply click here

Kanye x Vibe Magazine

The February issue of Vibe sees Kanye's first solo front cover for the magazine. Within the interview Mr West speaks about his latest album and the paparazzi incident amongst other things. What popped out to me was this

“I definitely feel, like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll pose naked. I [want to] break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture.”

Now, I like the guy. His music and his styling. I even thought that him wearing a fake foxes tail to an awards ceremony was pretty cool (something only he could get away with) but im not too sure about the posing nude thing!

Could he potentially be taking it too far with this one?

A new year...

Firstly Happy New Year! Sorry for the lateness of this post but my minds been occupied with resolutions and blueprints for potential success this year!

Speaking to the team over the holiday season has made me feel that after an '08 that was largely a year to forget (the current recession, huge unemployment figures, losing wollies), '09 is the year to make a change and strive for success.

With regards to the blog, you'll see more of the team contributing (more of the fam are gonna stop talking about posting and actually contribute)!

So, good times ahead!

Be like me and believe in Yazz - The Only Way Is Up!

BROOKLYN goes Ard!

R1 posted this tune a while back now, but i saw this on BNTL and had to post. The tunes massive but that aside this video is crazy. The artist behind this version is Evan Roth and he has made the entire video using typography, the only letters you see that feature are from the word BROOKLYN.
